Lee's Fast to Continue "Sassy Science Series" at Public Library
Cleveland, TN (10/02/2026) — Dr. Jacob Fast will continue the "Sassy Science Series" at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at noon.
Fast will present "Disaster MythBusters: What Movies, Headlines and Popular Culture Get Wrong About Crisis." In his talk, Fast will examine misconceptions about crisis events portrayed in movies and news coverage. He will also challenge common assumptions about panic and helping behavior and discuss what communities need during a crisis.
Fast joined the Lee faculty as an assistant professor of science in emergency management in 2023. His teaching focuses on emergency management, disaster response, humanitarian logistics, and interdisciplinary disaster preparedness. He has helped facilitate large-scale simulations and applied learning experiences designed to prepare students for real-world crisis environments.
"The Sassy Science Series brings fascinating science topics to our community in a way that is both informative and fun," said Kathy Davini, adult programming coordinator at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library. "We love partnering with Lee University to bring knowledgeable faculty members like Dr. Fast to the library, and this program is a great opportunity for our community to learn more about what really happens during a crisis."
All sessions are free and open to the public and will be held in the Flex Room of the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library, located at the corner of Church Street and Eighth Street.
