Lee's Alpha Gamma Chi to Attempt Fourth World Record in Softball Marathon

by Meredith Dufresne

Cleveland, TN (10/02/2026) — Lee University's Alpha Gamma Chi, a men's social service club, will once again attempt to set the world record for the longest softball game after setting records in 1986, 2005, and 2023. This year's game will begin Wednesday, Oct. 7, and continue for 144 hours through Oct. 13 on the softball field outside Bowdle and O'Bannon residence halls on Paul Conn Parkway.

Alongside the record attempt, club members are raising money for East Cleveland Hope Outreach (ECHO), an organization that serves the community through programs providing food, clothing, educational support, and other resources to individuals and families in need.

"Service is something we are called to do as children of God, and it is something Alpha Gamma Chi strives to embody," said Chi President Kayden Sherritze. "After a great deal of planning, the support of willing members, a worthy cause, and relationships throughout Cleveland, we decided to step up to the challenge once again. We are excited to use this event to serve our community, raise awareness for ECHO, and make a meaningful impact."

The softball marathon will consist of two teams, with nine players from each team on the field at a time. Players will rotate through 14 hours of play and 10 hours of rest without ever leaving the field.

During the 1986, 2005, and 2023 games, Alpha Gamma Chi raised money for March of Dimes, Hurricane Katrina victims, and Youth World Evangelism Action, respectively.

"We think there is something special about over 30 guys coming together to help raise money for people who need it more than we do," said Bryce Butler, vice president of Chi. "We want to make an impact on the community around us, and we want to give God all the glory for it."

Alpha Gamma Chi is one of Lee's first Greek clubs and is committed to developing Christian scholars and Christian gentlemen for the greater glory of God.

All community members are invited to come out and cheer on the teams.
