Lee's Milliron Receives Distinguished Contribution to the Profession Award
Cleveland, TN (10/19/2026) — Dr. Trevor Milliron, professor of psychology at Lee University, recently received the Distinguished Contribution to the Profession Award from the Tennessee Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (TNAMFT) in Nashville.
The Distinguished Contribution to the Profession Award is the highest recognition a member can receive and recognizes work that has enhanced and supported the mission of TNAMFT.
"I was completely surprised, but it was such an honor to be recognized by TNAMFT and my colleagues," said Milliron. "I've been fortunate to work alongside so many dedicated professionals in the field, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the profession and to the education of future marriage and family therapists."
Milliron joined Lee University's faculty in 1998 and previously served as director of the graduate programs in counseling. He is also a recipient of Lee's Excellence in Teaching Award, one of the highest honors a faculty member at Lee can receive. Milliron is licensed as both a clinical psychologist and a marriage and family therapist.
Along with his colleagues in the behavioral sciences, Milliron helped develop the university's master's program in marriage and family therapy and led the program through the accreditation process. In 2016, Lee became home to Tennessee's first MFT program accredited by COAMFTE. He later chaired the faculty committee at Lee that established Tennessee's first PhD program in marriage and family therapy in 2020. Through these programs, more than 220 graduates have become licensed marriage and family therapists in Tennessee and surrounding states.
Milliron is a Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. His professional interests and clinical specialties include the integration of faith and psychology, working with couples affected by severe mental illness, and the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
He earned his doctorate and master's degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary and his bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
TNAMFT is a volunteer-based nonprofit association whose mission is to establish and maintain professional standards in marriage and family therapy through meetings, publications, education and training, and research in the field.
