Lee University's Carroll to Begin Fall "Sassy Science Series"

Cleveland, TN (09/03/2026) — Lee University's Dr. Blayne Carroll will kick off the fall season of the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library's "Sassy Science Series" with a talk titled "How to Think Like an Engineer." The program will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at noon.

The event is the first of four science sessions scheduled for the fall. Programs will be held on the second Tuesday of each month and will feature a different Lee University professor presenting on a scientific topic.

Carroll's presentation will include a 40-minute talk followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session. During his Sassy Science Talk, Carroll will explore how engineers approach problems, make decisions, and design solutions that improve the world around us.

Carroll has taught at Lee University for more than 20 years and currently serves as Dean of the Wright School of Engineering and Computer Science. He earned his doctorate in mathematics from Emory University, where he specialized in graph theory and combinatorics. In addition to teaching, Carroll has led the development of new academic programs and played a central role in establishing Lee's engineering program and School of Engineering. Carroll is passionate about helping students develop the logical, creative, and problem-solving skills needed to address complex challenges.

"We are so excited to partner with Lee to present another semester of this series," said Kathy Davini, adult programming coordinator at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library. "We are grateful to offer our community opportunities to discover the excitement of science through engaging speakers like Dr. Carroll."

All sessions are free and open to the public and will be held in the Flex Room of the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library, located at the corner of Church Street and 8th Street.
