Lee's School of Music to Host High School Honor Band & Orchestra

by Kamea Sutherland

Cleveland, TN (10/23/2026) — The Lee University School of Music will host its annual high school Honor Band & Orchestra weekend from Nov. 12-14, culminating with two performances open to the public.

"Hosting the Lee University Honor Band & Orchestra has always been such a rewarding experience for me," said Dr. Amy Humberd, assistant professor of clarinet at Lee. "I enjoy seeing the excitement in all of the students' faces as they come to campus and spend a few days working with our wonderful faculty in the School of Music. This year, we are thrilled to add an orchestra in addition to our two bands!"

Lee University Honor Band & Orchestra is an annual fall event for outstanding high school musicians. Students are selected from high schools across the United States based on their submitted materials and recommendations from band and orchestra directors.

Registration is open now and closes on Oct. 31. Participating students should prepare the district or region etudes appropriate for their state and grade level. Percussionists should prepare snare and mallet etudes only. These etudes will determine chair placements. For more information on how to sign up, visit leeuniversity.edu/academics/music/honor-band and eventbrite.com.

Honor Band & Orchestra participants will have the opportunity to work with faculty and students from the Lee University School of Music and will receive quality training over the course of the event. After learning from faculty clinicians, the high school students will perform for the Lee community.

The first performance will take place on Nov. 13 at 3:15 p.m. in the Conn Center, featuring Lee's Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Symphony Orchestra. The second will take place on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. in the Conn Center, featuring the Honor Band & Orchestra participants.

The event's clinicians are Dr. Josh Pace, director of bands and wind ensemble director at Lee, Dr. Leonardo Rosario, assistant professor of strings and orchestra director at Lee, and Dr. Pam Klena, assistant professor of music at Oakland University and director of the Oakland University Symphonic Band.

The Friday and Saturday afternoon concerts are free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.
